Bill Henderson
 

Bill Henderson is a Professor, a Legal Rebel, and one of the most influential people in legal education. Bill joined the IU Maurer School of Law faculty in 2003 following a visiting appointment at Chicago-Kent College of Law and a judicial clerkship for Judge Richard Cudahy of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.  

Drawing upon more than a decade of research, Bill is a sought-after commentator on the changing legal marketplace. His observations and research have been frequently quoted in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, the Atlantic Monthly, the Washington Monthly, The Economist, and National Public Radio. Bill’s essays and studies also frequently appear in the National Law Journal, The American Lawyer, and The ABA Journal.

Bill has accumulated numerous awards. In the last five years, he has been named:

  • One of the 100 Most Influential Lawyers in America by the National Law Journal, a list compiled just once every decade
  • The Most Influential Person in Legal Education by National Jurist Magazine
  • One of the inaugural group of “Legal Rebels” profiled by the ABA Journal

In 2010, Bill co-founded Lawyer Metrics, an applied research company focused on the legal industry.  Access Group acquired the company in 2015.

CO-Founder, Lawyer MEtrics

In 2010, Bill co-founded Lawyer Metrics, an applied research company that brought together legal market experts, statisticians, institutional/organizational psychologists and lawyers to solve challenging business problems using effective understanding and application of data. The company was later acquired by Access Group.

Director, Milt and Judi Stewart Center on the Global Legal Profession

From 2009-2014, Bill directed the Center on the Global Legal Profession, which is focused on the unprecedented challenges lawyers are facing around the world and the development of research and training materials to assist current and future attorneys in their understanding of international legal systems.

DIRECTOR, LAW FIRMS WORKING GROUP

Since 2006, Bill has served on the Steering Committee of the Law Firms Working Group, a joint initiative between the American Bar Foundation and Indiana's Maurer School of Law that seeks to advance knowledge and understanding of law firms, and private practice generally, through systematic and collaborative empirical research.

Faculty research associate, law school survey of student engagement

Bill has served as a Faculty Research Associate for the Law School Survey of Student Engagement (LSSSE) since 2006. LSSSE is a provider of research products and services centered on the study of the law student experience. Through its research functions, LSSSE serves as a source of macro-level, empirical information about the law student experience.
